March was a memorable month in many respects.

Early on, 29-year-old Sharon Fichman continued her ascent in the WTA doubles rankings as she raised the winner’s trophy in Monterrey, Mexico with Kateryna Bondarenko.

The week before, the Canadian-Ukrainian duo came within inches of claiming the crown in Acapulco but ultimately fell to Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos.

Sharon’s outstanding performances propelled her 13 spots to World No.48 in women’s doubles and earned her the title of Canadian Star of the Month!

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the ace has also been very active on social media. With tennis on hold, she’s been helping to #FlattenTheCurve and making the most of the downtime by staying in touch with fans, documenting her training regimen, sharing recipes and more.

In addition to her ideas to keep things going at home, she’s found a way to stay fit through the quarantine, and we love it! She most definitely deserves the title of Canadian Star of the Month both on and off the courts.

Honourable mention

Our honourable mention goes to Leylah Annie Fernandez, who started out the month at No.190 and capped it off as the World No.118. That’s a tremendous 72-place move up the pecking order!

In Monterrey, she fought her way into the quarters before losing to the first seed and eventual champion Elina Svitolina (6-4, 7-5).

The week before, Leylah Annie competed in the singles final in Acapulco, suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Heather Watson.
