TNS Tournament Director




The objective of the Tournament Commissioner is to enhance the sanctioned tournament experience by offering consistent and enjoyable events. This is accomplished by providing:


–           Continuity from event to event

–           Friendly and welcoming environment for all players

–           Efficient tournaments that minimize players’ time at the event

–           Appropriate level based play (tiered events)

–           Instill a “The Player is the most important” attitude

–           Want “the customer to keep coming back”

–           Consistent distribution of prizes and prize money


Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, as the Tournament Commissioner you will be responsible for:


  1. Marketing:
  • Sending out mailchimp reminders of upcoming events
  • Work in partnership with host clubs
  • Updating digital media communications, including the: Tennis Nova Scotia website, social media, Mailchimp, etc.


  1. Tournament Planning:
  • Build/Create the tournament framework in V/R
  • Update entries in V/R
  • Create draws in V/R
  • Assist players in finding doubles partners pre event if needed
  • Manage all aspects of the designated sanctioned tournaments
  • Creat tournament binder for each event with Paid/Not Paid list, scheduling conflicts, draws,schedule, contact info for players.
  • Work with DNTC in case of rain
  • Submit files to Tennis Canada for Rogers Rankings/UTR


  1. In-Tournament:
  • Maintain draw desk at each tournament every day
  • Recruit and manage assistants and volunteers from host clubs if needed
  • Address players concerns as they arise
  • Work with tournament committee for each venue (if applicable)
  • Act as referee/court attendant when officials are not present
  • Work with pros at clubs
  • Manage the draws, including scheduling, etc.
  • Presentations of awards/prizes
  • Ordering and Delivery of awards/prizes


  1. Financial:
  • Receive payments from athletes, and process refunds as required through Paypal
  • Reconciliation of financials with host clubs
  • Maintain financial spreadsheet as provided


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum CP1 Certification
  • Must take Intro referee/official course



Remuneration: $15,000

Hours:              max 20 sanctioned events ($750 for each additional event in calendar year)

Payment:          every 2 weeks
