Updated June 26th 2024

Due to several conflicting events in the original selection timeline (May-June 2025), such as; proms, 4 Stars, Atlantics, Nationals, Halifax and Fredericton ITF events, Bedford Open as well as Coaching courses, we are hosting the Canada Games Selections between the Indoor Atlantics and the Junior Nationals in 2025.

This will allow us to invite the top 8 provincial players, as intended (after the Atlantics), and will allow for several quality matches for players going to nationals in late March, while also avoiding the multiple scheduling conflicts listed above. This will also allow for earlier team selection, thus more time to prepare as a team. Please note the new try-out dates below.

PROCESS FOR TEAM SELECTION

The number of coaches and players engaged in competitive programs has significantly grown in Nova Scotia since the last CG cycle. Therefore, we are moving towards a much more objective selection process that is fair for all and aimed at removing any subjective criteria, or potential bias.

Selection Events and Dates:

Event #1: For players who would be U16 in 2025 (Born in 2009 or later)

U16 Thursday Feb 27 – March 2
*Players may play up to 7 matches over a 4 day period.

The top 8 ranked players in Nova Scotia in U16 as of February 25th, 2025, will be invited to compete in a round robin event held over the course of 4 days.

National Bank Rankings will be used to determine the top 8. If a player in the top 8 does not wish to participate, no additional players will be added. The National Bank Canadian Junior rankings is calculated by a player’s best 5 results from the last 52 weeks.

The top 2 finishers from this round robin event will receive spots on the 2025 Canada Summer Games team.

The bottom 2 placed players are then out of the team selection process.

Event #2: For players born in 2007 or 2008 and Players finishing 3rd – 6th in Event #1:

U18 Thursday March 6- Sunday March 9, 2025
*Players may play up to 7 matches in a 4 day period.

U18 Players, born in 2007 or later, who are in the top 6 ranked in NS in U18 (excluding all U16 players from the U18 Ranking), as well as players finishing in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in Event #1 are also eligible (if they choose) to compete in a round robin event held over the course of 4 days (if numbers require). If any of these 4 players from Event #1 choose not to compete, no additional players will be added.

The top 2 finishers from this event will receive spots on the 2025 Canada Summer Games team.

Round Robin Tie-Breaking Procedures:

If 2 players are tied with the same overall match win/loss record, then the head to head match played in the round robin between the 2 tied players will determine the winner.

If 3 or more players are tied with the same overall match win/loss record the following will be applied, in the order as listed, until a winner is determined:

A. The player with the best match win/loss ratio in matches played between the tied players will determine the winner; if still tied

B. The player with the best sets won/loss ratio in matches played between the tied players will determine the winner; if still tied

C. The player with the best games won/loss ratio in matches played between the tied players will determine the winner; if still tied

D. Playoff matches

COACH/MANAGER SELECTION COMMITTEE:

The coaching requirements for Canada Games coaches are within the Tennis Canada technical package provided to the CG society. This info will be included in the call for applications.

A committee of 3 will be appointed by the CEO to invite and review applications and then select individuals for both positions.

This committee will also oversee any disciplinary matters, queries, or other enquiries before, during and after the Canada Games event.
